Puna Bio on Norrsken Foundation’s Top 100 Impact List

Puna Bio, an Argentine company focused on sustainable agriculture, has been named one of the top 100 impact companies by the Norrsken Foundation, making it the only representative from Latin America on the list. The selection, known as the Impact/100, highlights companies with the potential to tackle global challenges such as poverty, climate change, and environmental degradation.

Founded in 2020, Puna Bio specializes in developing biofertilizers based on extremophile bacteria collected from the Puna region in northwest Argentina. These bacteria are uniquely adapted to survive in harsh conditions, which the company leverages to improve soil health and crop yields. Their two key products, Kunza and Kanzama, are designed for soybean and wheat crops, respectively.

Norrsken Foundation, a global non-profit organization, creates the Impact/100 list through nominations from leading venture capital firms and non-profits worldwide. The aim is to recognize early-stage companies making significant strides in solving critical global issues. This year, over 1,200 nominations were submitted, with Puna Bio standing out for its biological innovation in agriculture.

Co-founder and Chief Research Officer María Eugenia Farías emphasized the significance of being the only Latin American company recognized. “This achievement not only highlights our work but also opens doors for other startups in the region, where investment access can be challenging,” she said.
