Agroforestry Carbon Raises R$1.1 Million for International Expansion and Small Farmer Support

Tropical forest combined with farming

Agroforestry Carbon, a climate tech startup dedicated to agroforestry projects for voluntary carbon offsetting, has successfully raised R$1.1 million in a crowdfunding round organized by Arara Seed, a platform focused on agribusiness and climate startups. The funds will be used to support the company’s international expansion, enhance its agroforestry database, and strengthen its marketing, sales, and technology teams.

According to Gabriel Neto, CEO of Agroforestry Carbon, technology plays a crucial role in their operations. “Technology is the backbone of our solutions. Our agroforestry database is extensive, covering thousands of trees and mapped properties.” He emphasized the startup’s mission to create not only environmental benefits but also social and economic opportunities for small farmers, helping to improve food security and increase autonomy in rural areas.

The company, founded in 2021, has already seen impactful results. In its first year, Agroforestry Carbon worked with over 280 families, planted 326,857 trees, restored 400 hectares of land, and offset over 30,000 tons of CO2 while producing 571 tons of food. These efforts contribute to landscape restoration, biodiversity improvement, and the diversification of agricultural and forestry production.

In light of its growing operations, Agroforestry Carbon recently hired Clara Johannpeter as Chief Operating Officer to support its expanding activities. This comes as the startup continues to focus on its goals of regenerating degraded landscapes and supporting small-scale farmers through agroforestry initiatives.

Henrique Galvani, CEO of Arara Seed, expressed his commitment to impact investing, particularly in climate solutions. He noted that Agroforestry Carbon is focused on addressing climate change by restoring degraded areas and integrating trees with agricultural crops to create more resilient ecosystems. This approach benefits both the environment and the farmers involved.

Neto’s enthusiasm for the startup’s progress was reflected in a recent LinkedIn post: “This is a huge milestone for a startup that launched just over two years ago with the mission to transform degraded landscapes into productive forests, bringing technical, financial, and technological resources to small farmers, while fighting for climate justice.”
