Grupo Bimbo Places Order for Harbinger Electric Trucks
Bimbo Bakeries USA, a prominent subsidiary of Grupo Bimbo, has placed a significant multi-year order for electric trucks with Harbinger, a Southern California-based electric truck manufacturer. This order forms part of Harbinger’s robust order book, which includes 4,000 binding vehicle pre-orders valued at over $400 million. Bimbo Bakeries USA is known for its well-regarded brands such as Sara Lee Bread, Thomas’, and Entenmann’s.
The collaboration with Harbinger aligns with Bimbo Bakeries USA’s strategy to reduce carbon emissions and dependence on fossil fuels. Christopher Wolfe, Senior Director of Sustainability at Bimbo Bakeries USA, emphasized the importance of this partnership in achieving the company’s Net-Zero emissions goal by 2050. The majority of the vehicles ordered by Bimbo Bakeries USA will be upfitted into walk-in vans, commonly referred to as “step vans,” which are a staple for large package deliveries.

Harbinger’s approach to building electric vehicles stands out in the industry. Unlike many manufacturers that adapt gasoline or diesel vehicles for electrification, Harbinger has developed a proprietary electric platform from the ground up. This vertically integrated method, encompassing all major vehicle systems, promises lower production costs and enhanced safety and durability.
Harbinger recently announced the closing of an additional $13 million in Series A funding, bringing their total Series A funds to $73 million. This financial boost will support the expansion of their manufacturing capacity and the commercial launch of production vehicles by the end of 2024.
