Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled Research Scientist – with expertise in analytical chemistry. The selected candidate is expected to be part of a team engaged in metabolic engineering. The candidate will be engaged in identifying, characterizing and quantifying target molecules in Quillaja Saponaria, an endogenous Chilean tree.  Applicants should have an M. Sc. or a Ph. D. degree in the discipline of biochemistry, analytical chemistry or related field and proficiency in analytical tools including HPLC, LC-MS and GC-MS. A priority will be given to candidates with experience in the pharmacology industry. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support a team of researchers by analyzing targeted plant metabolites in the pathway leading to accumulation of specific saponin molecules.  
  • High throughput bioprospection of hybrids and engineered lines of plants for specific saponin compounds.
  • Participate in plant in-vitro biology experiments.
  • Conduct experiments in protein and nucleic acid chemistry 

Required qualifications:

  • M. Sc. or Ph.D. in a related field
  • Experience in phytochemistry and or analytical chemistry. 
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret scientific data, technical- protocols and related government regulations. 
  • Proficiency in statistical analysis.
  • Ability to occasionally travel outside the US as needed for business purposes.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5-10 years of experience in either industry and or academia, ideal candidate would have experience or exposure to the pharma industry
  • A priority will be given to candidates with an ability to communicate in Spanish. 

Compensation

  • Full-time position
  • Salary ranging from $80.000 to $120.000, commensurate with experience and qualifications 
  • Benefits include Health insurance, dental, vision, 401K, PTO including sick days and holidays.

This position offers a unique opportunity to be part of a cutting edge Research & development team in an Agbiotech startup. In this position you will work closely with experienced researchers, develop and implement new protocols and experiments and have access to state-of-the-art equipment and resources.
