New Report Highlights Key Opportunities in Latin America’s Agrifoodtech Sector
A novo relatório, developed by IDB Invest in collaboration with Accenture Colombia, examines the potential of agrifoodtech to transform the agricultural sector in Latin America and the Caribbean. With the region playing a crucial role in global food production, the study explores the technological gaps in the industry and offers insights into how innovation can help address them.
The report presents a benchmark comparing the state of agrifoodtech in Latin America to other global agricultural ecosystems. It highlights differences between key countries in the region, including Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, Chile, Peru, and Colombia, and identifies categories within agrifoodtech with significant growth potential. These include advancements in upstream technologies (focused on primary agricultural production), midstream innovations (which optimize the supply chain), and downstream developments (connecting consumers with agricultural products).
The study also emphasizes the vital role that large corporations can play in driving change across the value chain, stressing the importance of collaboration between small producers, large corporations, and investors to foster a more sustainable and competitive agricultural ecosystem.
As Latin America and the Caribbean face pressing challenges such as climate change, food insecurity, and the need for productivity improvements, this report offers valuable insights into how agrifoodtech innovations can contribute to overcoming these issues while promoting economic growth and sustainability.
